Businessman Pointing At His Presentation On The Futuristic Digit

3 Questions for Pascal Loretz

In conversation with our Managing Director, Pascal Loretz, about the importance of digitalisation for early warning systems and the future of alerting the population.

What role does digitalisation play for Kockum Sonics AG?

“Digitalisation always has a technology and business aspect. Without a sound business model, even the best technology offers no added value. My goal is to drive the digital transformation forward and bring the two components into harmony. We have already digitised and optimised many internal processes and adapted the structures accordingly. However, the digital transformation is more far-reaching than digitising processes and increasing efficiency. The next step is to make the business model customer-centric and to innovate with digital products and services.”

What influence does digitalisation have on early warning systems and how do you see the future of population alerting with sirens?

“The future is clearly decentralised, networked and multi-channel. Sirens will become “smart”. Smart sirens can provide location-independent services. In addition, emerging damage can be detected at an early stage due to the improved data situation and evaluations, and thus products and services can be optimised on an ongoing basis. New technologies offer interesting perspectives in this regard. I am also of the opinion that existing synergy potentials of existing infrastructures should be better used and efficiently optimised. Based on these developments, for example, new innovative business models such as alerting “as a service” can emerge.”

What does this mean for Kockum Sonics in concrete terms?

“Digitalisation leads to changes internally and externally and permeates the entire company. In concrete terms, for Kockum Sonics this means that we approach this change with the appropriate innovative (digital) mindset in a proactive and motivated way. As a leader, it is my goal to involve the employees* and actively accompany them in this change, always following my motto: Move forward with vision and tradition at heart.”
