An efficient, loud alarm system is an important part of security measures in prisons. A fire in a prison cell or within the prison grounds can cause devastating effects on inmates, staff, and infrastructure.

Effective alerting and good emergency organization are therefore of great importance in prisons. In the event of a fire or other danger to inmates or staff, the siren and fire alarm systems can be activated to warn all affected persons as quickly as possible and evacuate them in an emergency. Sirens are usually very loud to indicate danger even in the presence of high background noise or obstacles such as thick walls. Prison alerting with sirens is an effective means of ensuring security in prisons and enabling a quick response to emergencies.

Last year, Kockum Sonics AG installed and commissioned the first electronic prison alarm system in the correctional facility in Witzwil (canton Bern). The new system replaces the pneumatic fire horn, which could only be activated manually.

A Delta-2 TK 250 Z was used for this project. This new siren system is connected to the existing fire alarm system and triggers automatically in case of heavy smoke development. The siren is equipped with the fire brigade alarm signal.

In case of danger or emergency, the entire building and prison area can be alerted with a loud signal.
